Meet the Team – Nicholas Verney

We are proud of our team here at Claydon Estate, so we would like to tell you a little more about who we are and what we do…

Name: Nicholas Verney

Job Title: Managing Partner

What’s your role at Claydon Estate?

With my wife, Alexandra, I have overall responsibility for the day-to-day stewardship and management of the estate that’s been my family’s home since 1620. It’s a diverse business so my role encompasses managing farming, let property, property development, conservation, looking after the landscape, strategic planning, coming up with ideas for new ventures and pretty much everything and anything that goes with being responsible for a place like Claydon.

As well as my core estate role I am a Trustee of four charities set up over the years by family members, all of which are linked to the estate in some way. I also work closely with the National Trust on various matters connected to Claydon House.

Describe your perfect day here!

The more varied the better! I’m as happy at my desk working on business plans as I am out on the ground helping lay a new water main for a building project.

In your role, what are you most looking forward to over the next few months?

Seeing projects that have been planned for a while come to fruition. We recently obtained planning permission to convert some Victorian brick barns in to offices and I can’t wait to see them transformed and used.

What interests/hobbies do you have?

Alexandra and I have two children aged 5 and 3 so time for hobbies is limited! I love classic cars and am also an amateur musician.

Finally, what’s your favourite film or book, and why?

This changes depending on what I’ve been watching and/or reading. I recently read Reach for the Sky by Paul Brickhill which is a biography of the second world war hero Sir Douglas Bader. Bader crashed his plane and lost both his legs but through incredible determination overcame massive challenges to become an incredible leader and inspiration to many many people.
